Baguio-La Trinidad Trip (March 20-21, 2010)

This trip was less planed.  My colleagues and I decided to spend the weekend in Baguio.  I said why not, I was seven years old when I first went to Baguio City. So we thought of things to do there.   I said let's try strawberry picking at La Trinidad, the Capital of Benguet Province which is a ride from Baguio City.   Another said he wants to by seedlings to add to his plant collection.  Then after thinking what to do and where to go, we searched for a cheap yet nice hotel to stay.  After reading several blogs, we discovered Hotel 45, a hotel strategically located near SM City Baguio.  The room we had was good enough for three and comes with free plated breakfast.
We arrived in Baguio at around 5:30am.  When we got out of the bus, it was really really cold.  I immediately wore my jacket before we walked our way to the hotel.  After arriving at Hotel 45, we were able to check-in as early as 6:00am.  The room we had was just enough for us, it has 1 double and 1 single bed.  Amenities include a cable TV, Hot and Cold Shower, and an Electric Fan.  All rooms have air-conditioning units, however, when we tried turning it on, it didn't work so we called the front desk.  We were told that air-conditioning is available at an extra charge.  But who needs it anyway in Baguio?  The windows were large enough to feel the cool fresh air.

Our first stop was Mines View Park,  just a short ride from the City Center.  We had pictures taken, bought souvenir items, and some bonsai plants.  We had bought so many things so we had to go back to the hotel to drop those items.  When we got back to our room, we felt tired and decided to take a nap.  After that, we refreshed ourselves and had our lunch at "Oh My Gulay!".  We discovered this restaurant from a blog that says our Baguio visit is not complete without visiting it. When we get there, we were amazed by the artworks.  Truly a masterpiece.  But the food is not that good though, The serving is so small and over priced.  We were expecting it to be cheaper because the ingredients can be found in Baguio at affordable prices.  But I'm not saying that one must not go there, just have a a glass of juice or a shake so you can have your pictures taken on the amazing artworks.  They do not allow non-customers to stay around the vicinity.

After our unsatisfying lunch, we then went on to the Botanical Gardens.  From there, we walked our way to the Mansion and to Wright Park where we again bought Plants.  After dropping our items  back to the hotel, we immediately went to the Central Market to buy cheap Vegetables.

Back at the hotel, we took some rest and took a shower before we went to the Baguio Cathedral for the 6PM mass.  After the mass, we went to SM Baguio to buy Green Bags for our souvenir items.  We also had our dinner there.  We were so tired the whole day so we slept early that night.

We woke up early the following day and off we go to La Trinidad for strawberry picking.  We were surprised how hot the weather is that day, it feels like 30 degrees Celsius.  Strawberries in La Trinidad is so cheap.  We decided to buy freshly picked strawberries instead because it is 50% cheaper than picking it yourself.  We immediately went back to our hotel to pack our things and prepare to go home.  But we still have enough time before checking-out so we decided to go to Good Shepherd Convent to by the famous Ube Jam and peanut brittle while the other went back to Wright Park to buy more plants.  We all got back in time to check-out.  We took a taxi to the bus terminal and departed at around 1:00PM.

Our overnight stay in Baguio was great.  I hope to stay there longer next time so I can experience other activities.
